iPhone 11/iPhone X Plus Release Date, Price and Features

April 23, 2018 by Carl VanOrden

As the winds regarding iPhone X Plus or iPhone 11 release date, price, and features have just started flowing, we thought it’s to time to round up all the trending stories so that you stay tuned to everything that’s going to line up. Let’s head over to take a glance at all the stories surrounding the iPhone 11!

Even though the dust on iPhone X has hardly settled, the rumors surrounding iPhone X Plus aka iPhone 11 have been doing the rounds for quite some time. Expectedly, many fans would love to keep an eye on certain things like iPhone X Plus release date, price, features, design, etc.

When we found the rumors and reports regarding 2018 iPhones steaming up, we thought it’s time to get close to the winds and tap on the things that are soon going to headline across the tech universe. And boy, this year seems to be even more exciting as there are plenty of things on the cards!

iPhone X Plus Release Date Rumors

iPhone 11/iPhone X Plus Release Date, Price and Features
Though the term “unpredictability” with regards to iPhones may have almost disappeared, even the biggest critics would admit that the excitement remains on the seventh heaven- untouched and unparalleled. You just need to take a glance at the Google’s most trending search terms ranking of 2017 to believe how wonderfully iPhone 8 and iPhone X rocked internet (iPhone 8 and iPhone X ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively just behind Hurricane Irma.)

iPhone 2018 Release Date
In recent years, Apple has consistently unveiled its new iPhones in September, so we expect iPhone X Plus or iPhone 11 to be introduced in September 2018. However, the tech giant was not able to launch all of its iPhones at the same time in 2017 due to manufacturing issues, so the much-awaited iPhone X was launched around one month after iPhone 8/8 Plus. But this year, we expect the company to be pretty much on the target as it, most likely, won’t tweak the design of the smartphone.

And yes, the issue with the TrueDepth camera is also more or less settled. So, the tech giant just has to concentrate on minor tweaks and ramp up the production to meet the demand.

Noted KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple won’t miss the September launch date in 2018. He states that the company’s focus in 2018 will be to ensure that all the new models are ready to meet the same shipping date.

Rumors are also doing the rounds for the release of iPhone SE 2, but we think it’s going to be introduced in Spring.

“Apple will release a new iPhone SE 2 in the first half of next year to storm emerging markets and ignite the first battle of next year’s “machine war” between Apple and non-Apple. It is understood that the iPhone SE 2 new machine by Wistron exclusive OEM, the trial production at the earliest this year, the first quarter of next year began heavy volume, stand firmly iPhone’s third largest assembly plant status.” – Economic Daily News

Three New Models
2018 iPhone Models

Apple is rumored to launch a trio of iPhone models in 2018. And that includes 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch models with OLED displays and a 6.1-inch model with an LCD display. The new TFT-LCD model is designed to for the low-end & midrange markets.

“Two new OLED models target high-end market; new TFT-LCD model aims at low-end & midrange markets: We believe the major hardware difference in the two new OLED models is size, in a bid to satisfy various needs of the high-end market. The new TFT-LCD model will differ significantly from the OLED models in hardware and design specs (for instance, the PPI will be lower). The primary selling points of the TFT-LCD model may be the innovative user experience of an integrated full-screen design and 3D sensing with a lower price tag.” – Ming-Chi Kuo

Citing “a source privy to the company’s product designs,” Nikkei has reported that the Cupertino-based company is likely to launch two new OLED models, in 6.3in and 5.8in sizes, and an LCD phone measuring 6.1in.

“Apple is likely to release another new iPhone with a liquid crystal display next year, according to a source privy to the company’s product designs. The source also said Apple is tentatively planning two new handsets equipped with organic light-emitting diode displays.” – Nikkei

iPhone X Plus Colors
The OLED models will continue to be available in space gray and silver. However, 6.1-inch LCD model is said to sport a metal back just like older iPhones and available in several colors.

iPhone X Plus Price Prediction
As for price, we expect the price of OLED models will start at $999 and max out at around $1,150. The price of the LCD model may start at $649-749 and max out at approximately $850.

iPhone X Plus Features
As of now, there is not much clarity about the features that are going to arrive on iPhones 2018. The tech giant will not tinker with the design. There could be some minor spec bumps, as well as features such as long-range wireless charging, in-screen Touch ID, and Apple Pencil compatibility.

I’m very curious for the rear-facing 3D scanner (for AR)
Bloomberg reports that 2018’s iPhone 11 may come with a 3D scanner on its rear sensor array. “This is in addition to – and distinct from – the existing TrueDepth scanner on the front, which is used for Face ID, Animoji and similar features, and which “relies on a structured-light technique that projects a pattern of 30,000 laser dots onto a user’s face and measures the distortion”.

The arrival of 3D scanner would be yet another crown jewel for the iPhone and further bolster augmented reality experience.

When more news and rumors start surfacing regarding features, we will update this post. So stay tuned for more…

Facebook’s new data policy: Answers to your privacy questions

April 23, 2018 by Carl VanOrden

Facebook’s new data policy: Answers to your privacy questions
We read through it since you probably won’t.
BY
LAURA HAUTALA
APRIL 21, 2018 8:32 AM PDT

https://www.cnet.com/news/facebook-data-policy-answers-to-your-privacy-questions-cambridge-analytica/

One of those privacy policies you probably don’t read just got a makeover.

Facebook, the world’s largest social network, revamped the policies it uses when collecting data on the more than 2 billion people who use it every month. As part of the new policy, released April 19, the company is also spelling out more clearly how it collects and uses that information about you.

The new policy comes in at more than 4,200 words. The language is meant to be easy to understand, but that’s still a lot of words to get through. Each one, however, helps us better understand how the company turns our data into personalized recommendations, tailored advertisements and academic research.

The changes come at a time when people are closely watching what Facebook does. Last month, The New York Times and the UK’s Guardian and Observer newspapers broke news that millions of Facebook users’ data had been leaked to a Donald Trump-linked political consulting firm called Cambridge Analytica. The revelations prompted US lawmakers to call CEO Mark Zuckerberg to Washington for two days of questioning about why Facebook failed to adequately safeguard as many as 87 million users’ privacy.

With that in mind, we’ve read through Facebook’s new privacy policy — the last update was in 2016 — to answer your most pressing questions. When you have time, the full text of the data policy is ready and waiting for you to read.

Where does Facebook get information about me?
It’s sometimes overwhelming to learn just how much info Facebook has on you. For instance, Facebook has a listing for what it thinks your political views are.

It finds this information from a mixture of photos, videos and thoughts you post on your timeline. It also gleans data from your interactions with Facebook friends, as well as the pages and posts you “like.”

Plus, the company collects seven different kinds of information it takes from a phone, computer or tablet you’re using. That includes data about the version of software you’re running, how low your battery is and how much storage you have left on your device. On top of that, Facebook can access information about devices that’re connected to the same network you’re on.

This kind of info is often used for something industry experts call fingerprinting, which is how websites identify you based on all the data they can collect from your device. Tying that fingerprint to your Facebook account could be a very powerful tool, allowing companies and advertisers to more easily identify you across the internet.

This tracking isn’t just so Facebook can keep its eyes on you. These efforts also enable some Facebook services to work more smoothly, like helping you more easily stream video from a device to a TV.

How does Facebook make money off me?
The updated policy includes one of Facebook’s most frequently repeated refrains: “We don’t sell any of your information to anyone, and we never will.” So how did it come to ring up more than $40 billion in revenue in 2017? In large part, it does this by selling access to you.

“We use the information we have about you — including information about your interests, actions and connections — to select and personalize ads, offers and other sponsored content that we offer you,” the policy says.

Facebook is the middle man connecting advertisers to you, based on the superrich level of detail it has about your tastes, location and personal connections.

What are my Facebook friends telling app creators about me?
One alarming element of the Cambridge Analytica scandal was how a relatively small group of Facebook users — about 300,000 of them — were able to share information on so many millions of users. It happened because Facebook allows apps to collect data on a user’s entire network of Facebook friends, and only the user interacting with the app has to give consent.

In 2015, Facebook limited the kinds of data third-party apps can collect on its users, years before news about Cambridge Analytica broke. In the new policy posted to its website, Facebook tells users it’s trying to limit this access even further. “For example, we will remove developers’ access to your Facebook and Instagram data if you haven’t used their app in three months,” the policy says.

But some collection of your data through your friends’ apps will continue. To totally shut this down, you have to give up using any apps at all through your Facebook account.

How long does Facebook keep my data?
That depends. If you delete — not deactivate, actually delete — your account, Facebook will delete your posts, including photos and status updates. But that doesn’t include the data Facebook got about you from sources other than yourself. So everything Facebook learned about you from your friends, from data brokers and from other websites, is kept for as long as the social network wants it.

The company also hangs onto information it might need for legal reasons, and to prevent abuse on its platform. “For example, if relevant, we exchange with third-party partners about the reliability of your account to prevent fraud, abuse and other harmful activity on and off our products,” the policy says.

Do I have any say in this?
You can adjust your settings to change how much of your profile is public and how much you share with third-party apps, as well as other settings. But when it comes to the data policy, you don’t have much of a choice. You have to take it or leave it.

In this case, “leave it” means leaving Facebook.

5 Signs Your Computer is Crying Out for Repair

April 21, 2018 by Carl VanOrden

5 Signs Your Computer is Crying Out for Repair
It’s pretty obvious when your computer is already broken, but how do you know when it’s about to break? Even before it falls into a heap and refuses to turn on, or flashes big messages about how your files are now encrypted, you’ll be given multiple hints that something is wrong. Here are the common signs your computer needs repair, sooner rather than later.

It’s running slow. Most people assume their computer is running slow because it’s getting older, but it could actually be a variety of reasons. A program behaving badly, a virus, overheating or even a failing hard drive can all cause a massive slow down. You might only notice it when booting up or starting a program, or the problem may have taken hold to the extent that even moving your mouse becomes torture. Sometimes the slow speed is simply due to some newer software that your hardware can’t keep up with.
Your system is running hot. A very common sign with laptops, running hot can be both the sign and cause of damage. Computers have fans to blow out hot air so they can cool off their internal components. At the same time, fresh air is drawn in through vents to create an effective cooling system. Unfortunately, just about every vent in a computer can quickly become clogged with dust and pet fur, essentially choking off the circulation and leaving components to overheat. Desktop computers have more space inside to circulate air, but you’ll still need to keep their vents clear. You’ll know your computer running too hot if your system shuts down frequently (safety cutout), the fan is working serious overtime, or your laptop is too hot to use on your lap.
Blue Screens of Death are everywhere. A classic Windows error, this is quite literally a blue screen that covers your view. The system will still be running, but something has gone wrong. You’ll be shown some text and an error code, often with Windows suggesting a restart. If a restart fixes your problem, perhaps something didn’t load properly at bootup and your computer had a whoopsie. It’s rare, but it happens. If you’re getting blue screens all the time though, that’s a sign a hardware or software problem needs to be resolved. Your computer will continue to give blue screen errors more and more frequently, so it’s best to take action as soon as you know something’s wrong.
It’s making strange noises. Your computer has a number of moving parts. You’ll know by now which noises it normally makes, from the startup beep to the whirring fan. When your computer starts to make extra noises…that’s when things get interesting. Fans can wear down and screech or grind, hard drives can start clicking, and in emergency cases, you might even hear a zapping noise. None of those are good! Whenever you notice a strange noise, remember your computer parts are all designed to work together and one problem could quickly become many if left unchecked.
It crashes and freezes. If your computer is crashing randomly, restarting without you, or freezing up completely, it’s a sure sign there’s a problem. As annoying as it might be, your computer isn’t doing this to drive you crazy – it just feels that way! You might notice it’s showing other signs from this list too because crashing and freezing are what happens when something isn’t just wrong, it’s terribly wrong. The problem could be almost anything, hardware and software both, but it’s always fixable. This is simply your computer’s final way of crying out for repair, desperately trying to get your attention and a little TLC.
Is your computer doing these things? Let us fix it for you. Call us at 225-315-3498 or click here to send us a message.

How to Stay Safe from Scams and Malware on Facebook

April 20, 2018 by Carl VanOrden

How to Stay Safe from Scams and Malware on Facebook
At last count, Facebook has clocked up over 2.7 billion users, which makes the platform more attractive than ever for scammers and hackers. While you may be logging in to share your latest family photos or catch up with friends, the chances of accidentally triggering a scam or malware are increasing daily. Here’s how to stay safe on Facebook and stop the spread.

Look out for freebies and surveys

Everybody loves a freebie and for the most part the competition posts on Facebook are legitimate. On the flip side though, when you see a giveaway for vouchers from a mega-store, alarm bells should ring. ‘Do this quick survey and we’ll send you a $50 Amazon Voucher!’ – it’s too good to be true. Even one click can take you on a messy journey through the underbelly of the web, picking up trackers and malware at every stop and at the end, you’re asked to share the post so your friends can get a voucher too…except nobody ever gets the reward.

Check your permissions with games and quizzes

Whenever you access a new game or quiz, you’ll need to give permissions for it to access your Facebook profile. Most people click the okay button without any thought, but if you review the permissions you’re giving, you’ll often find they’re asking for a massive amount of personal data; public profile, friend list, email address, birthday and newsfeed. Do they really need ALL this information? Sometimes the shakedown is from necessity, but sometimes the apps are preparing to launch attacks against you both on and off Facebook. For example, when you call your bank they ask certain questions like your full name, birthday and maybe which high school you went to. All that information is in your Facebook profile and now shared with your permission.

Don’t friend people you don’t know

Having lots of friends is always nice, but that friend accept could end up costing you. It might be someone pretending to know you, or a picture of a pretty girl to entice men (and vice versa). Once you friend them, they get access to everything your friends can see. In this case, it’s more than the risk of someone knowing your personal data, you’ve just given them intimate access to your life. It’s exactly how romance scams start, and there are even cases where the victim finds photos of their children circulating the internet.

If it’s weird, forget it

It doesn’t happen very often, but hackers find ways to take advantage of flaws in Facebook. A common hack that keeps popping up in various forms is to embed malware in a link. The virus then infects your machine and contacts all your friends with an enticing message, like asking whether a picture is of them. When they click to view the picture, the virus catches them and their friend list, and so on. Facebook is pretty good at staying on top of these flaws, but they need time to fix it. Just like if you got a weird email with an attachment from a friend, use that same level of scrutiny in your Facebook and don’t open messages or links that seem out of place.
